Wall Art Weekend

A sketch of Paris, letters from my beloved, a post card that was just to pretty to throw away, and photos that share a story of a journey.  I’ve collected mementos along the way from trips and just everyday things I’ve found.  But what to do with all these to beautiful to part with keep sakes?  Don’t you just love how the above photos mixes art, sculpture, photography and unique ways of framing all together.  And it still looks amazing!

Mixing art and unique items with personal photography is not easy.  How can all these what seemly look random items come together and make a cohesive design?
First keep the color palette simple.  You still want your eye to be drawn to one specific element first and then move thru the composition.
Mix in textures can be an easier softer way of adding in something special.  Different frames or a small sculpture.
Don’t over think it to much.  Bring together things that you love and start laying them out on the floor.  Move things around until you feel like it’s pleasing to the eye.

I love how this composition has a mat with text, maybe a favorite poem or song lyrics.  Some photos are framed others are simply mounted.

Handmade; A canvas handmade just for you

Everyone loves something handmade, at least I hope they do.  A gift that someone spent hours on, thinking about every detail.  Painstakingly pouring their heart into that gift.

No secret, I love handmade.  There’s just something in a handmade piece of art that a factory made trinket can’t come close to.  I’ve been searching for a handmade idea to share with my clients and I think I’ve found it.  A handmade canvas made by me.

And art piece to be enjoyed for years to come.  Truly something unique you won’t find at Target, your neighbors home or the online photo printing site.  This is art, art that reflects who you are and what’s important to you.  So elated to able to share something from my heart with my clients!  Different sizes and custom detailing available.  Handmade Canvas Art commissions start at $250.  I can’t wait to share more of these beauties!

I honor the greatness in you

‘Tashi deley’  In Tibetan it means I honor the greatness in you, a way of greeting someone.  During the winter months when it’s slow I read a lot…a lot.  I read during commercials when I’m watching Modern Family.  I read in the line at Starbucks, thank you Kindle Fire.  I read while I’m eating breakfast.  After the busy season I think I just need to recharge my batteries and catch up on reading.  The Other 90% by Robert K. Cooper is my current can’t take my hands off book.  I’ve read it before, but since returning from Nepal it has all sorts of new meaning.  It’s one of those books you read every year, just to refresh and recharge.

Robert talks about a trip to Tibet and how the Tibetan people view life, it’s challenges and the people around them. The Tibetan way of life isn’t far off from what I experienced in Nepal.  Just an overwhelming sense of happiness. You hope for better, but life is good and as it should be right here and now.

Tashi Deley. Just to stop and let those words soak in, I honor the greatness in you.  Everyone has greatness.  And to slow down life just a little and recognize that, is a beautiful thing. Finding my why, why I do what I do.  Why am I a photographer.  Has been a challenge and incredibility empowering journey.  And it’s not over yet.  I know that I want to use my photography and change lives.  How I’m not 100% sure yet, but it’s going to start with the Ronald McDonald house.  Photographing families that are in a situation we hope we’ll never have to face.  Enduring things that can break a person down, but if you let it, build you back up to be an even stronger person.

I can’t wait to share the first family with you all!

Wall Art Weekend

The Artist in me has three
Faithful, sleepless
And self-giving friends:
A newness-eye, a oneness-heart
And a fulness-life.I love using photography and art together to bring a room to life.  Sprinkling in family photos with your favorite art can bring a lot of personality to a display.  And I like that I can use smaller pieces of paintings, which makes it cheaper.  We’re all looking to maximize a dollar right? Plus I love finding small pieces of art when we travel and then incorporating that into our wall displays.  A little mini reminder of our travels.

Sadly this is not my home, but in my dreams it is.  I found it on pinterest, where it originally came from this site.

If you’re on pinterest and want to see what I pin, find me here.

Happy pinning!
