ahhhhh Holga

Holga you are unpredictable and many times I’m not sure you know what you’re doing at all, but every now and then I’m thrown to me knees in how amazing you are.

I just got the film back from a very busy weekend of shooting and Liz and Eric’s engagement session was AMAZING!  I knew I clicked right away with Liz, but when I got them in front of the camera I think I heard the angles sing.  Ok that may be stretching it, but it was still pretty awesome.  I’m in love with this photo and Holga today.  More of the busy weekend coming soon!

Fabulous images of 2009; Engagement Photos

Engagement photos…is it really necessary?   YES!  I don’t really view engagement sessions as the traditional idea if it.  We can’t forget about the picture for the paper now can we?  Sarcasm aside.   I do think having a photo session prior to the wedding is fantastic idea.  It gives you, the client, and myself time to get to know each other.  It’s hard to get use to a camera in your presences and your wedding day isn’t the best place to test out how much you’ll cringe.  I think I’m going to start referring to engagement sessions as Beloved Sessions instead.  It gets rid of all the ‘traditional’ connotations associated with engagement session.   The worst thing is going into a session with a preconceived notion of what it’s ‘suppose’ to be.  Because that limits you and you’re not able to be yourself.  Which is what my photography is all about.  Real. Personal. Emotion.

So what do I wear now to a ‘Beloved Session’?  Wear what makes you feel comfortable and says who you are.  What would you wear on a date?  On a day out with you future spouse?  I love layers, so I think you can’t go wrong with layering and texture.  And it’s definitely not important to be matchy matchy. (is that a word?)  Coordinating colors sure, both of you in blue shirts and jeans…not so much.

Do I get my hair and make-up done?  I say do whatever you need to, to feel beautiful.  Some people love having their hair done, others may not.  It’s not necessary to go crazy.  Just be you.

Where do we go for a session?  I always let my couples choose where they’d like their Beloved Session to be.  Some place that’s important to them is always a great choice.  Or a place that sets the tone for the wedding, or something completely opposite of the wedding location.   Colorado has so many great places to take photos, the possibilities are endless.

I have a pet, can he come too?  ABSOLUTELY!  I love including pets, especially dogs.  They have such great personalities themselves, they can add a great dynamic to the photos.  And you’re usually more relaxed and in a playful mood with your little four legged friend around.

The most important thing to remember is to have fun.  No one is there to judge.  I just want to get to know you and find what makes your love for each other special.
