Recycled Wedding Details; The Maids

We’re all connected.
Connected to each other and this planet we call home.
I believe we can all do a little more to help protect Mother Nature and keep this planet looking beautiful and that goes for wedding planning!  Ebs and I came together to come up with ideas to recycle items and make a wedding just a little more green.  And maybe even save you a little green too.  Today’s detail is…
The Maids
How many bridesmaid dresses are sitting in your closet, worn once and someday will become a dress-up gown for your kids?  We all have them.  I remember thinking for my wedding, I wanted my maids to have dresses they’d actually wear again.  It didn’t quite work out that way, but I wish it had.  Nobody really wants to spend $150+ on a dress they’ll wear once.  So how about getting away from the bridal stores and into non-traditional wedding stores to find the prefect dresses?  Give your ladies a color to go with and let them find the perfect dress for them.  Something they’d wear again and LOVE.  Pair it with the guys in suits they picked out.
You can unify the look with a bouquet of a single matching color.

Unique Handmade Jewelry
My favorite gifts for friends and family are handmade with the recipient in mind.  I love supporting local artist and artist in general so when Ebs told me about an artist that made handmade crowns I was salivating at the mouth to see her art.  Lisa Eaton is incredibly talented and I’m swooning over these crowns.  The crowns are lovingly hand wrapped with over 75 feet of wire and embellished with 40 light catching Swarovski crystals.
Gorgeous right!?

Chalkboard Paint!
I LOVE chalkboard paint.  There are just so many things you can do with it!  It can transform just about anything into a writing surface.  And who doesn’t love that!?recycled details-chalkboard paintA simple rock becomes a name place card. recycled details-chalkboard paintEven bricks can be painted.  (I’m secretly wishing one of my couples uses bricks in their decor)  recycled details-chalkboard paintTerracotta pots work beautifully painted.  And it doubles as a keep sake.
And did you know you can paint glass?  I’ve done it and it works prefect for a big chalkboard frame!
If you can paint it then think of how it could be used with chalkboard paint.  I think I need to do a whole inspiration board for a wedding based on chalkboard paint…that’s how much I LOVE it!  Can you image a wedding with chalk details?  *swoon*

Dream BIG lovelies!

Recycled Wedding Details; Reclaimed Wood.

Reclaimed Wood.
I love finding old wood.  There’s so much character with it’s dents and scratches.  *sigh* There are lots of different ways to find old wood.  You can search your local Architectural Salvage place.  Most metro places have one.  They are a gold mind for all things old and character filled.  On occasion I’ve come across a great piece at a thrift store as well.  But you definitely have to be patient to find something that way.  Or if you’re lucky enough to have a father that hasn’t moved in 50 years and is a secret hoarder you’re sure to find something amazing.

window frame wedding detailOld windows can be reused for anything from seating charts to menus and event programs.  Hang them from a tree for a unique ceremony alter.  Or even as a photo booth backdrop.  reclaimed wood wedding detailFor my brother’s wedding they went ‘dumpster diving’ so to speak in my father’s collection of wood.  We even found old tongue and groove floor boards for a project in our babies room!  Anyone with a farm or ranch is sure to have scraps of wood just laying around waiting for you to give it a second life!

Don’t be shy and use your imagination!  Your details will be unique and tell a story.  And best of all, make Mother Nature happy.
