Story Behind the Image; Just Dance

ISO 2000, f/2.0, 1/100 sec, 35mm
Anytime I try a new way to shoot whether it’s a type of camera or just changing my mind set I find I rely more on my heart.
I wait for a moment to speak to me from a place deep down.
I don’t click the shutter a million times.
It’s a feeling I try to tap into each time I bring the camera up, but sometimes fail to do.
To be a good story teller you need to be patient and calm.
Ready for anything your heart pulls you too.
A standing tradition for Ben & Finn is an evening dance.
Just a father and son swaying away to the music.
Just a moment before I was actually chatting away to Em in the other room when my heart tugged to pay attention else where.
The door frame guides you right to the father and son in their own little world.
Clearly present and content to just sway back and forth.
My only wish is that the kitchen light had been off. The mix of window and incandescent light is to much for a digital camera.
When you’re shooting indoors turn off all the lights and rely only on window light.
It is your best defense against odd shadows and a yellow skin tone.
And keep an open mind when you’re shooting.
Wait for a moment to unfold and feel it.
Then bring the camera up.
Let it speak from your heart.
