Recycled Wedding Details; The Maids

We’re all connected.
Connected to each other and this planet we call home.
I believe we can all do a little more to help protect Mother Nature and keep this planet looking beautiful and that goes for wedding planning!  Ebs and I came together to come up with ideas to recycle items and make a wedding just a little more green.  And maybe even save you a little green too.  Today’s detail is…
The Maids
How many bridesmaid dresses are sitting in your closet, worn once and someday will become a dress-up gown for your kids?  We all have them.  I remember thinking for my wedding, I wanted my maids to have dresses they’d actually wear again.  It didn’t quite work out that way, but I wish it had.  Nobody really wants to spend $150+ on a dress they’ll wear once.  So how about getting away from the bridal stores and into non-traditional wedding stores to find the prefect dresses?  Give your ladies a color to go with and let them find the perfect dress for them.  Something they’d wear again and LOVE.  Pair it with the guys in suits they picked out.
You can unify the look with a bouquet of a single matching color.

Unique Handmade Jewelry
My favorite gifts for friends and family are handmade with the recipient in mind.  I love supporting local artist and artist in general so when Ebs told me about an artist that made handmade crowns I was salivating at the mouth to see her art.  Lisa Eaton is incredibly talented and I’m swooning over these crowns.  The crowns are lovingly hand wrapped with over 75 feet of wire and embellished with 40 light catching Swarovski crystals.
Gorgeous right!?

Etsy.com and even ebay can be great places to find one of kind artist.  You can even search your area for a local artist.  :)

How’s your planning going?  Enjoying it and finding the unique touches you want? Leave a comment, I’d love to hear!

The Sun Shines Bright

delilah-022She’s here!  I’m still in awe and shock over the last couple of weeks.  Our little Delilah Grace arrived on her due date, Feb 17th in perfect health.  She’s a peanut, something we were not expecting.  She’s an amazing sleeper and a great little eater.  She’s everything we could have imaged and then some.  And has freakishly long toes. :) Newborns are a little like camp fires, you could sit and watch them for hours.  D’s faces are hilarious to watch, and she has the best old man face.  Cracks me up every time!

While I was pregnant I thought a lot about how I would balance family and work.  I love my work, I love what I do.  How am I going to be a mother and work?  I know people do it everyday.  But how was I going to manage it all while working from home and not hiring help.  Once D arrived I knew I needed to rest and take time for just her and us as a family.  But I struggled.  A LOT.  I’m still struggling, but I feel like I’m started to scratch the surface of what it all means for me.
Just a week after D was born a lactation consultant told me I needed to take the next two weeks and do nothing but stay home, preferably in bed or on the couch, and nurse this baby.  Bond with my beautiful little D.  My first thought was HAHA! you don’t know me very well.  A day…fine.  Three days…ok.  But two weeks, just isn’t in me.  I wanted life to get back to normal, even if it is a new normal.
Finding that balance between work and family is going to be harder then I thought. I don’t want to miss a moment with Delilah, or be worried about work so much that I can’t enjoy her.  She deserves more then that.  She deserves a mama that’s present.  Being Present is so important to me.  Be present with everything I do.  It’s not a destination your working towards, it’s journey.  And even though I’m not very good at it sometimes, it’s something I keep reminding myself of and working to be better at.
It’s just the tip of the ice berg, but I know for Delilah’s sake I’m going to work even harder to live up to my motto.  She is my and her Daddy’s world.delilah-005 delilah-012new born-1110

And hopefully this doesn’t become Delilah’ blog ;)

Recycled Wedding Details; Herbs & Potted Plants

We’re all connected.
Connected to each other and this planet we call home.

Herbs & Potted Plants
It doesn’t matter the season, potted plants and especially herbs could be incorporated into the table decor.  And herbs smell so amazing.  Think Lavender, rosemary and even parsley!  Maybe mix in a few cactus or succulents for a play on color and texture.  I really don’t think you can have to many textures on a table.  The more you add the more depth and interest there is.
Find inexpensive ‘pots’ and you have a wedding favor that will surely be loved.  (the grass ones I found were just a $1 each)  Best of all, there won’t be any flowers wilting or going to waste after all the festivities.
And if you really have a green thumb, grow the herbs from seed months before the wedding!recycled details-herb center piece recycled details-herb center piece

Heirloom Quilt
This is all Ebs.  I love the idea of decor at your wedding that becomes an heirloom quilt for your future children.  Swoon right!?  I can image even having guests sign squares of fabric with well wishes for the new family.  It just doesn’t get any better.recycled details-wedding quiltrecycled details-flag garlenrecycled details-018recycled details-wedding quilt
