Story Behind the Image; The Beginning

It’s easy to get busy and forget to look at things thru a toddlers eyes.
See things for the first time with wonder.
They’re learning to cope with the world that is always changing.
For reasons they or us don’t always understand.
I love this image for Sophia’s expression alone.
But the school bus fully of toys, the dog just wondering around, even the child latch left undone brings it all together.
I love her mix matched outfit that she totally owns with her look of ‘I’m just not sure about you yet.’
While parents are anxious about the session starting, little ones are just inquisitive.
They stop what their doing to just be in the moment.
Oh how I love what kids teach us!
I try not to bring the camera up in the beginning of session, just wait for everyone to be comfortable.
But sometimes in those early moments the most beautiful expressions bubble to the surface.
I’ll be the first to admit, I don’t always get the moment in one click.
But this time I felt the moment coming as we gathered to go outside.
Pay attention to those feelings in your bones.
They are almost never wrong.
And more times then not, the perfect moment.
The light on her face is window light from the left.
I LOVE one directional light.
It can be dramatic, calming, subtle, and harsh all at once.
I could do a workshop on it all by itself!
Together we can slow time and savor life just as it is.
