Holiday Traditions; Cookie baking

It’s easy to get wrapped up into the commercialization of the holiday season.  Running around buying this gift and making it to that holiday party.  Wondering how you’ll pay for all those gifts and why on earth people give white elephant gifts.  Your heart longs for something simpler and less hectic.  A night surrounded by your family enjoying hot coco and decorating the tree.  Or getting lost in the cloud of flour as you bake all day with your kids.  Memories are what thread a family together.  I use to question every tradition we did as a family growing up.  I wanted to understand why we did them, what was the meaning.  I desperately needed to understand the history going back generations.  Now having my own children I question less and find more and more traditions to add to our growing family.  I don’t want Christmas to be all about the gifts.  I want it to center on being together and giving to others without expectation and without reservation.  Give to others because we love.

The Regnault family is at their heart exactly like me.  They carve out beautiful little traditions among the chaos and hold onto each other a little tighter.   They understand the power of tradition and what it means as we grow older.  Watching these boys get so excited about baking cookies with their parents makes me weepy.  Their enthusiasm mirrored on their parents faces.
