Photo A Day Challenge – Part 2

Processed with VSCOcam with m5 preset

Imagine you’re playing in the backyard with your kids.  The end of summer looms learn as you feel the soft cool breeze.  The kids seem unfazed by the coolness as they run around.  Your oldest grabs the hose and squeezes the nozzle as a stream of cold water rushes out and high into the sky.  The light dances on the water and you worry that maybe it’s to cold for the hose today.  But their joyful smiles make you pause and think, maybe a couple minutes won’t hurt.  They seem so lost in the moment.  The glittering light nudges you to take a picture of their late summer play.  But as you pull the camera to your eye, you click, and click again.  Pausing to look at the LCD screen you realize that what’s there is not what’s right in front of you.  Is it even possible to capture that joy in a picture?

YES it is.  And you can learn, just like I did.

There are two things in photography that I believe are the most important parts that make up a photo.  And they are not what camera you have or what your settings are.  It’s LIGHT and STORY. Without light, you have no picture.  Without a story, there’s no meaning.  The story is what draws you in and captivates a viewer.  The story gives you a glimpse into the subjects real life.

Stories are also how we communicate our deepest values and memories to the next generation.  Stories are vital to our legacy and how we learn.

I thought for this next Photo A Day Challenge we’d dive into how to tell a story with a photograph.

Where will the challenge tips be posted?  Over in the Facebook group, Mothering From The Heart.  Click to join the group for free.

By the end of this challenge you’ll walk away more confident that you’re taking more then just a snap shot.  You’ll have confidence to print and hang your own photos, leaving a legacy for your children.

Some of the points we’ll be covering in this week’s challenge:

  • What story you want to tell
  • Portrait – how to use a portrait to tell a story
  • Shooting with a wide angle lens
  • Action shots

I’m in the group answering questions and encouraging every day so every skill level is welcome!

The challenge runs Monday Aug 22nd – Monday Aug 29th.  You must be in the Facebook group to get the tips. Once participant will also receive a FREE seat to the next Mom to Mom workshop September 10th!!
